‘Two and a Half Men’ star begs viewers to stop watching Two and A Half Men

27 Nov

By Jane Zuckerberg

Was “Two and a Half Men” teen star Angus T. Jones so turned off by the recent storyline that had his character Jake Harper making out with Miley Cyrus that he’s now biting the hand that feeds him by trashing the series he’s starred on for the last decade?

No, it goes much deeper than that. Not only has the 19-year-old called his series “filth” in a new interview, but he also begs viewers to stop watching “Two and a Half Men” and talks about how being on the show goes against his religious beliefs.
“Jake from ‘Two and a Half Men’ means nothing,” Jones says in a video interview with Chris “The Forerunner” Hudson, who leads a Seventh day Adventist-leaning video series. “If you watch ‘Two and a Half Men,’ please stop watching ‘Two and a Half Men.’ I don’t want to be on it. Please stop watching it. Please stop filling your head with filth. Please.”

Jones also talks in the video about how TV, and apparently “Two and a Half Men” specifically, does the work of the devil.
“A lot of people don’t like to think about how deceptive the enemy is,” Jones says. “He’s been doing this for a lot longer than any of us have been around. There’s no playing around when it comes to eternity.”

So why, you wonder, is Jones still appearing on a show he so clearly detests and is publicly trashing?

“It’s very weird being on a television show, especially now that I’m trying to walk with God, because my television show has nothing to do with God and doesn’t want anything to do with God,” Jones said during a Seventh-day Adventist Church workshop on his birthday in October (as reported at Vulture.com). He said that he had considered not continuing his role, but “it’s a strange position that I’m put in … I’m under contract for another year, so it’s not too much of a decision on my part. … I know God has me there for a reason for another year.”

In the workshop testimony, Jones also talks about his parents’ divorce and his own drug use.

CBS declined to comment on Jones’s interview. A representative for Jones, who is reportedly paid between $300,000 and $350,000 per episode for “Two and a Half Men,” has not responded to our request for comment.

Jones, along with co-stars Ashton Kutcher and Jon Cryer, signed a one-year deal to continue the 10th, and current, season of “Two and a Half Men,” in which his character has graduated from high school and joined the Army. The sitcom remains a top 10 ratings hit for CBS.

On Twitter, reaction to Jones’s video vacillated between comments on Jones’s actions and his religious beliefs and, of course, blaming Charlie Sheen, the man who played Jones’s on-screen uncle for eight — well, seven and a half — seasons before a public meltdown (which included publicly making disparaging comments about the series) ended with his getting axed from the sitcom.

Evil Dead Remake Poster Makes A Bold Promise

21 Nov

Fans tend to think they know better than filmmakers when it comes to how to handle a franchise. So, when news arose that an Evil Dead remakes was in the works, the outcry was intense and immediate; many declared that without Bruce Campbell as Ash, it could not rightfully be called Evil Dead. It wasn’t enough for this group that Campbell–who became a cult icon from the original trilogy–and Sam Raimi, who wrote and directed them, were on board to produce. It wasn’t enough that Raimi handpicked the reboot’s director Fede Alvarez, and contributed to the script. This reboot, many fans declared, could never be as good as Evil Dead.

At NY Comic Con this year, Campbell took these criticisms on with gusto, proudly proclaiming true horror fans who crave gore, guts and absolute terror will love this new Evil Dead. He made a believer out of everyone in that auditorium. Then the trailer they saw that day was unleashed on the web, and more formerly outraged Evil Dead fans admitted this could be good. Now, Yahoo’s got a new poster, which like the trailer it clearly defines this is a little bit of old—in this case a nod to the old logo—with a little bit of new—like the deeply unnerving image of a girl covered in dirt and blood stumbling down a dirt road.

I don’t know why, but I am captivated by this poster. The black and white image is chilling, with the gritty impression of blood on creeping down her legs. It’s not audacious in its visuals, just in its bold claims: “The most terrifying film you will ever experience.” I know many of you are disappointed Raimi is not helming this himself, but if this is a sign of what his mentoring can bring forth from new filmmakers, I think we’ll all be grateful and terrified next spring.

Cher Has a Smart Crush on MSNBC’s Chris Hayes

13 Nov

Cher has a crush on *gasp* MSNBC’s Chris Hayes!

CHER has fallen for a guy half her age – 33-year-old, married, MSNBC newscaster Chris Hayes. The “Believe” singer, 66, has been gushing to friends about her huge crush on the nerdy rising cable star, who hosts the weekend morning show “UP w/ Chris Hayes.”

Though Chris is clearly married, outspoken Cher says her passion for him has inspired her to give up bad boys. Now she’s looking for a political wonk just like the young commentator. “Cher adores Chris,” revealed an insider. “She says he’s the perfect man for her despite the age gap and is bummed out that he’s married. “She doesn’t want to mess around with tough guys and bikers anymore. She’d like to finally settle down with a man who can discuss things like world affairs and economic policies. She’s put the word out to all her friends that she’s ready and willing to be set up with a lawyer, financier or professor – no hell-raisers need apply.”

Cher went public with her feelings, tweeting that she has a “smart crush” on Chris. Cher’s been married twice, first to the late Sonny Bono and then to rocker Gregg Allman. She’s since dated a string of younger men including “Bagel Boy” Rob Camilletti, Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora and former Hell’s Angel Tim Medvetz, whom she briefly reunited with over the summer.

But the new mellow Cher has gone intellectual, said the source, adding: “She’s even e-mailed Chris to try to arrange a meeting – just to chew the fat about politics and the economy.”

100Feed: How to Create a Zombie Using GIMP

4 Jul

Zombified Billy Mitchel

By Jane Zuckerberg and Samantha R. Selman

Pick a base photo of yourself that features an up-close face shot to highlight the details of a zombie face. If you want to do a full-body zombie, take a picture of yourself or a friend posing in a gruesome undead position, such as with your limbs hanging to your sides with your head cocked, or with your hands outstretched and a ghastly expression on your face. Find a stock photo of a forward-facing skeleton, or even just a skull, to add to the picture later.

Open the base photo in GIMP. Click “Tools” in the top menu, then “Free Select” to select the lasso tool. Use the lasso tool to outline your zombie’s face and body.

Click “Tools,” “Color Tools” and “Hue-Saturation” to bring up the “Adjust Hue/Lightness/Saturation” dialog.

Click on the “Hue” slider and drag to the left. Repeat for “Saturation” until the skin of your zombie takes on a grayed or deadened tint. Click “OK.”

Open the second photo of a forward-facing skull. Use the lasso tool once more to select the right or left of the skull — specifically the eye sockets, part of the nose and the mouth. Once selected, press and briefly hold “CTRL” + “C” to copy your selection.

Click the window in GIMP that contains your original photo. Press “CTRL” + “V” to paste the selection you copied earlier. Click the layer now on top of the original photo and drag to the left or right side to position the skull over one area of your face. Right-click on the layer in the layer palette on the right and select “Mode.” Set the mode to “Multiply,” with an opacity of 50. Play around with the opacity levels and modes to give your skull different looks.

Click the pink eraser icon on your toolbox, to the left. Click on the “Tool Options” menu on the right, and set the opacity to 70. Spot-erase areas of the skull to blend it in with your face. Press “CTRL” + “M” to merge the skull to your face when you’re finished.

Click “Paint Tools” from the “Tools” menu again. Click “Dodge/Burn” or click the “Dodge/Burn” tool from the toolbox on the left. On the right, in the “Tool Options” box, click “Burn.” Set the opacity to 50.

Burn around the edges of your eyes, nose and mouth. The eyes should appear hollow. Use the burn tool to add a gaunt look to the cheeks by brushing under the cheekbone. Add dark, shapeless burn spots to other parts of the body to simulate rotting flesh.

Click the paintbrush tool from the toolbox on the left. Underneath the tool icons, you will see two boxes. Click the first to bring up the foreground color menu. Choose a dark red and click “OK.”

Set “Mode” to “Multiply” in the tool options dialog on the right. Set the opacity to 60. With the paintbrush, mark around the areas of your burn spots to show open wounds. The skin should take on a dark red hue but should also blend in with the characteristics of your skin’s shadows and texture because of the “Multiply” effect.

Drag the brush over your zombie’s hairline and throughout the area of the hair strands. Keep brushing over areas to add more layers of blood and to darken missing pieces of your zombie’s skull.

Set the size of the brush in “Tool Options” to a smaller width, then draw trails of blood leading down from the mouth and other open wounds. Drag the brush over your teeth to give the zombie a “freshly feasted” look.

Click in the foreground color box and choose a lime green color. Set “Mode” in the tool options to “Overlay.” Choose a larger size for the brush this time. Set the opacity to 30.

Spot-click and drag around the neck, forehead, arms and other areas to show a sick discoloration of the skin tone. If you add more of this color to the skin, you can create a more cartoonish look for your zombie, something that might work for a comic strip.

Click the foreground color again and choose a golden yellow. Color in areas of the teeth and fingernails if they are visible in the photo. Click the foreground color again and select black. Hollow out parts of the mouth and hair.

Click “Filters” at the top of the screen, then “Distort” and “IWarp.” Click “Shrink” and set the deform radius to 50 and the deform amount to 0.30. Inside the preview box with your image, click the edge of your zombie’s lower jaw, just briefly, to sink it inward.

Play around with the “IWarp” tool. The “Move” effect shifts parts of the picture where you click. For example, use the “Move” tool to deform limbs and push a part of your forehead higher to create a bulging look. Push the lower part of your zombie’s mouth down to create a distorted mouth of blood and teeth, enhancing the ghoulish look.

Click “File” and “Save” when you are finished with your photo. Your zombie is ready for action

100Feed: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes to Divorce

30 Jun

Last week, Tom Cruise took daughter Suri and son Connor to an awards ceremony in New York. Meanwhile, Katie Holmes was on the other side of the planet in Taiwan. The official reason was to promote an ice skating event.

Now that Holmes filed for divorce on Friday, according to People, Holmes’ Taiwan trip seems more like a warning sign than anything else.

In recent months, the couple was rarely photographed together, even when the two were in the same city. Back in New York this week, Holmes was photographed all over town with Suri, wearing matching outfits, going to see the movie Brave, eating ice cream, all without Dad.

Tom, also in New York, was busy filming his new movie Oblivion and wrapping up his promotion of Rock of Ages. Even though he credited Katie for his interest in doing Rock of Ages (and apparently gave her his bejeweled codpiece), she didn’t show up at the movie premiere.

What has been spotlighted, particularly in the Daily Mail, is Holmes’ recent style. The usually impeccably dressed actress has been photographed looking like, well, a down-to-earth mom. Untucked button-downs, jeans, loosely wet knotted hair — none of which would raise alarm bells unless you were a superstar known for a meticulously managed makeover since her marriage began more than five years ago.

According to Life & Style, the couple hadn’t been spotted together since early April. (Bear in mind, the publication also claimed Holmes was pregnant again.)

The magazine points to their very different lives, as Cruise traveled around the world hopping from film projects, and his wife stayed under the paparazzi microscope with daughter Suri, working on smaller projects.

But another stressor on the relationship could stem from Cruise’s devotion to Scientology — it’s long been blamed for his split from Nicole Kidman — and the serious allegations of his mistreatment of lower-ranked members of the religious group, as this New Yorker article pointed out.

If Holmes thought her marriage to a superstar would be a boon to her career, she was wrong. Since their union began about six years ago, her professional life has taken a backseat to being a wife and mother. That may have been her choosing, but a recent interview with Cruise in Playboy suggests an unsettled Holmes.

Cruise praised Holmes’ creative endeavors but also inadvertently hinted at a marked distance between them. “One week I said to her, “You’ve been up in the middle of the night. Is everything okay?” She smiled and then threw this thing on my desk and said, “I wrote this script.”

Consider the fact that her husband, a producer, didn’t notice she was writing a script, and the idea that he hadn’t questioned her latenight busy work until it was done, and it paints a picture of a less than intimate union.

It also suggests Holmes wanted more from her career than just being known as a superstar’s wife.

It’s something Cruise’s second ex-wife, Nicole Kidman, was all too familiar with.

When asked in an interview with Vanity Fair whether women could have both marriage and career, she said of her marriage to Cruise: “I think I had to choose. I think (the marriage) would have come down to it. I suppose it wasn’t meant to be.”

100Feed: Plans to Begin Filming “The Coup” in October

29 May

Pierce Brosnan will star alongside Owen Wilson and Michelle Monaghan in John Erick Dowdle’s The Coup, the Crime Scene Pictures thriller that begins production in October. The film, written by Dowdle and his brother Drew, centers on an American family that moves to Southeast Asia and finds itself entangled in a violent coup where merciless rebels are attacking the city. Brosnan, repped by CAA and attorney Stuart Brookman, will play a mysterious government operative. Crime Scene’s Adam Ripp and Rob Paris are financing and producing with Steve Alexander and Drew Dowdle. Sierra/Affinity is handling international sales beginning next month at Cannes.

John Erick Dowdle (born December 1973) is a American director, producer, screenwriter, and editor, best known for horror films. He grew up in the Twin Cities of Minnesota. After graduating from the St. Thomas Academy, an all-boys, military, Catholic high school, Dowdle moved to Iowa City, Iowa to attend the University of Iowa. There he would make the move from writing to film. Two years later, Dowdle moved to Manhattan, New York City to attend New York University’s film program. After graduating from NYU, Dowdle moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in filmmaking. Dowdle wrote and directed his first feature, the 1996 film Full Moon Rising, when he was just out of college. For his sophomore effort, The Dry Spell, Dowdle was joined by his younger brother Drew, who produced the film as John wrote, directed and edited. They now live in Los Angeles, working together as The Brothers Dowdle. Dowdle directed alongside his brother the horror-disaster films Quarantine and Devil, based on a storybook from M. Night Shyamalan. He will direct with his brother the movie adaption of Jack Kilburn’s novel “Afraid”.
